In 2017, Dr. Omar Zuaiter and Alaa Habeb launched Dentroid, a dental technology startup with a mission to make dentistry a kinder and friendlier experience for patients and dentists using photonics (using laser technology) and robotics, as alternatives to needles, drills and sprays. The vision for the startup is to have dentistry adopt laser technology, addressing the root causes of dental pain & anxiety, and create a pain-free dental experience.
Dentroid is pioneering the adoption of femtosecond lasers in dentistry which will be their first surgical application outside eye surgery. Unlike conventional dental lasers or rotary instruments, femtosecond lasers have a very unique ability to precisely cut through the most resistant materials without requiring cooling or causing thermal damage. This “cold cutting” creates convenience for the patient, clearer vision for the practitioner and a cleaner environment in the office without microbes laden droplets.
A key distinctive feature of femtosecond laser in “cold cutting” is that it leaves the underlying tissues unharmed with the aim of supporting faster healing with less postoperative complications.
Dentroid envisages femtosecond lasers, combined with their patented miniaturised robotic technology will change the way dental tissues and restorative materials are prepared, processed and bonded not only in clinics but also in dental labs.
To support this mission, Dentroid has assembled a multidisciplinary team of world-renowned experts in dentistry and medicine, engineering, robotics, physics, medical sciences and AI informatics together with commercialisation and growth minds who helped scale startups grow to much larger organisations.

Physiotherapist, exercise physiologist support for management of osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is commonly managed medically and typically with treatment. Exercise is also essential in the management of osteoporosis but tends to be under-utilised due to lack of knowledge and unfounded concerns about the risk of injury. In fact, optimal care of people with low bone mass, osteoporosis and/or increased risk of falling can and should include targeted exercise to help prevent osteoporotic fracture.
In early 2024, Healthy Bones Australia released a summary of the principles of osteogenic loading and fall prevention, the translation of those principles into clinical practice, evidence-based recommendations for exercise prescription, and special considerations, along with links to several relevant resources for people with or at risk of osteoporosis, falls and fractures.

Reframing women’s health as a system-wide agenda across innovation, regulation, workforce and policy
Professor Robyn Norton AO FAHMS is one of the two Founding Directors of The George Institute for Global Health, Professor of Public Health at UNSW Sydney and Emeritus Professor of Global Health at Imperial College London. Robyn co-established The George Institute’s Global Women’s Health Program and more recently the Centre for Sex and Gender Equity in Health and Medicine, where she co-leads the Business Translation Working Group. Robyn is a director on the board of the Black Dog Institute, a member of the Women in MedTech Committee of the MTAA and a member of Chief Executive Women. She also chairs the NHMRC’s Gender Guidelines Development Committee and the Advisory Board of the Network of Excellence in Women’s Health at Imperial College London.

Forum fosters dialogue in breast cancer
In October 2024, the Frazier Institute hosted an event dedicated to breast cancer advocacy and research, supported by TRI (Translational Research Institute), National Breast Cancer Foundation, PA Research Foundation, Health Translation Queensland, QUT and The University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine/Frazer Institute.
The key aim of the event co-organised by Associate Professor Joy Wolfram, Group Leader, Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology & School of Chemical Engineering, The University of Queensland was to foster dialogue between breast cancer lived experience advocates (consumers), researchers, and clinicians.
